White River Railroad Emergency Repair

Client: Vermont Railroad
Project Span: 2011-2012

PROJECT OVERVIEW

EIV was contracted to oversee and manage a portion of the emergency repair of one of the largest railroad bridges in Vermont, a 450-foot through-girder railroad bridge on the Vermont Railroad. During Tropical Storm Irene, one of the large granite piers sank by over six feet, requiring extensive emergency shoring to keep the bridge from collapsing. A crew of over 60 construction personnel worked around the clock to stabilize the bridge with large steel pilings. An underwater diving crew was contracted to provide underwater structural welds to the new support towers. Once supported, the existing pier was removed and a new concrete pier was placed using drilled shaft foundations. EIV provided construction inspection and oversight throughout the project.
